How can I be a better ally for our future generations and as a future teacher?

I want to start with saying this post is just strictly to understand better because I am worried for the world right now. I did research and all but still feel like I’m stuck. I am a Caucasian female who might be teaching in areas of great diversity and want my students to know they are loved for them and they are amazing. The first step is reaching out and learning.

I want to start with this question: What is the correct way to address that community? I mean I heard black community but I know some say African American. What is the correct way they want to be identified as?

Second: What should I know about their culture that is different then my culture per say?

Third: What are good book recommendations for kiddos? I am talking about books that show diversity and you would recommend.
