With everything going on with school graduations and ceremonies, I've been reading about what schools are doing. I have a sister in high school who will be having a "virtual" graduation but they have not released any details on what this means yet, and we're cutting it close here.
I found this study from United Way on counties with the highest graduation rate in every state and two things stuck out to me:
- I'm familiar with DC school systems and they aren't good – it's stunning to see that their graduation rate is 72% compared to the rest of the country. It almost seems unfair they were included because they are their own district, there is no other data to compare them to.
- A lot of these counties are some of the wealthiest counties in the US, so some might not be surprised at their near-perfect graduation rate. Truthfully, it just shows me the real correlation between privilege and education.
What are your takeaways?
