How would going to Japanese high school work?

So I'm thinking of going to japan to high school. But the problem is that in the country I live you end mandatory school at age 16-17 witch is the age that a Japanese child would start their third year of senior high school. Would it be possible to go to the second or third year of Japanese high school when I would turn 17?
