So a lot of people say that “school teaches useless things that people have no interest in” but I feel that exposing students to math and science at a young age is good because you don’t really know what you want to learn until you try it and see what fascinates you. However i think forcing students to do these courses their entire school lives (12 years) is a bit excessive. Personally I feel that classes should be mandatory up to maybe 6th or 8th grade abs then you should be able to choose.
More importantly though, I feel schools need to include “life” classes where they teach parenting, taxes, finances, etc.
Furthermore, I feel the problem is not what is being taught but how it is being taught. Many of the concepts we learn in math or LA are actually useful yet the way the school system forces students to use these skill: copy notes, memorize, test and forget is so stupid. It does not make you apply your skills at all. It does not apply it to real world situations.
So my question to teachers is 1) why does the school curriculum expose students to a bunch of things that they probably won’t be interested in (I still think this is good but I think it shouldn’t be through all grades) 2) why does the school curriculum not teach life skills and 3) why does the school test instead of giving projects or real world applications for the concepts we are being taught?
