Healthy Homes Curriculum

Hi everyone!

I work for a non-profit that raises awareness around the relationship between homes, home habits, and health. We’re planning to put together a set of learning experiences for 3-5 grade students that gets them to think critically about healthy home environments - with focus on healthy air quality. We’re debating a few things and I’d love to get your opinions!

1. Would it be easier for teachers to implement if the curriculum were integrated into existing classes or offered as a separate program (like an assembly or something like that)?
2. We want students to talk to their parents about their home environment. Can you describe any strategies or approaches you have found effective in encouraging parents to participate in their child's homework?
3. Exploring healthy home environments could be a delicate topic because it could cause alarm in children or parents if they discover something unfavorable. Any tips on how to draw students into a potentially delicate topic without frightening anyone?
4. How might you encourage students to actively participate in making their homes healthier based on what they learned and the discussions they have with their parents?
5. Do you have any additional recommendations or insights that you think would be valuable for us to consider?
