Sport courses

Hi there,

I’m not sure if this is the right sub for it but I’m hoping you could give me a hand.

A friend of mine is in a dead end job and is on a slippery slope to damaging his life. He’s told me he’s only really interested in football and would love any sort of background role in the sport.

Now, he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed so I’m asking what sport courses at college are manageable and can lead to a job in the sector he is actually interested. (UK)

Got my first glimpse of someone who is poorly educated in the workforce today

It's kind of sad really. I was in line at a local dollar store this evening buying something to snack on. I got behind a guy who was paying for his item with change (coins). The kid at the register was slowly picking up the coins (presumably counting them) and he picked up the last coin, thought about it for a moment and handed it back to the customer saying he couldn't do it. The customer sort of laughed and said 'come on man, are you kidding'? So the customer counted it out for him and the cashier still couldn't process it. The guy had to dig into his wallet and pull out a dollar bill and then add the 34 cents which the kid still had issues counting the 34 cents...

What's happened to our educational system? I learned how to count change in elementary (grammar) school. How do people budget their own money if they can't count out $1.34 in change?

I'm completely baffled by this now. Was this kid 'special'? I mean if he is then that's fine. But don't put him in a position where he has to do something that he can't do. If the kid is not 'special', why can't he count change? At first I thought he was just a little slow. I didn't want to say anything because I wasn't sure. But after conversing with him as a customer, I kind of got the sense that no, he's not special. He was pretty normal. He just doesn't know how to count change. Not a great idea to put him on a register then.

This store usually only has one, maybe two people working at a time so he may have been the only one there which tells me that he's not 'special'.

At this point, I'm willing to believe that this young man was not special. Nice kid, very pleasant talking to. But really shouldn't be in a position to count change.

In Tennessee, they offer the Tennessee Promise/Reconnect programs, are these the same thing? Couple other questions.

With this Tennessee Promise they say they offer "free" two year scholarships community college for all graduates of an established home school or high school. When they say this, what does this include? Do they cover all school costs, like textbooks, the cost of the actual programs and courses you will take? I keep seeing something that's saying something like "will cover all remaining balances after first fees" on the tn.gov webpages talking about these two programs.

How would one even begin to find a way to enter into these schools and get the benefit of the Tennessee Promise? I don't have to many resources to ask or start from, being a home school grad.

Need help with my future LMFAO

Alright, so I'm in ninth grade right now(yea IK young af). But the first semester I averaged all A's in school and got a 4.0 but this semester, I was really slacking and I'm probably gonna end up with B's and C's even though I know I can do better. I was wondering if me slacking like this completely screwed all my chances at any good colleges and did it maybe screw my life in any way? If so, what can I do to come back? This is probably a very weird post in this sub but i couldn't find another one

Has anyone done a summer school foreign language through apex?

I'm still deciding on whether or not I would like to take a Spanish II through apex this summer and After reading through the course description I was left with a couple questions. My first question is:

how the speaking assignment/test are executed using apex? Will we perform speaking assignments via video chats, video recording, or audio recordings?

my second question is: Can the course be completed at your own pace?

and my last question is: Will we need a camera or microphone to complete the course?

I can’t bring myself to study for a test that I want to pass more than anything.

I know, contradicting right? I want to pass it more than anything but not studying? I know how it sounds.

My life long dream has been to fly for the military. To do that you must be an officer, and to be an officer, one of the requirements is to take an officer qualifying test. This test is very similar to the ACT/SAT (which I did poorly on), with some extras spice mixed in. One bad thing is that I am not allowed to use a calculator which is bad because I am TERRIBLE at math. I mean terrible. So if y’all have any books/websites tips on study basic math let me know please!!

Anyways, like I said, it has been a dream of mine and I want this more than anything! I stay up every night watching YouTube videos on flying and dream of it being me one day, however I cannot being myself to study. I have purchased multiple study guides but they are just collecting dust on my shelf. Which is why I am here.

How do I bring myself to study? What are some of the best study tips you can provide? It would mean the world to help me out! Thanks guys!

US education needs help but it’s not the system

The issue is not classroom sizes or a universal education plan from K through 12; the staff is the problem. I have gone through private and public schools from K through 12. I can guarantee there is no issue with how the schools are run. In private school, I was picked on and bullied not just by the students but also the teachers. In public school, I witnessed teachers and staff pick on students. In both public and private schooling, the teachers teach for the test and not for the betterment of the student. I had a teacher in junior year of high school who is let the students use the study guide that perfectly lined up with the test and would even give the answers to the study guide the day before and the day of the test. I have had counselors tell students that if they do not get until this specific college, they’re wasting their time. I had a teacher, my English teacher, set the entire class down and tell us that if we do not get into Stanford university that we will never amount to anything in our lives. My biology professor during Covid online teaching cut off all communication other than this is when the assignment is due, which means I am paying someone to verify that the test that is being run by a third-party robot is correct.was your biology lab course in college involving hands-on experimentation? Or was it filling out a worksheet that can be googled in 10 seconds? There are websites that students can submit their essays into that were already grade and submit the appropriate score of that essay or term paper into the grading book for the professor, so they don’t even have to move a finger. Our students aren’t failing because they are dumb or lazy, or they don’t have the resources. Our students are failing because our teachers and professors are failing to do their job. Of course, there are tons and tons of teachers who not break their back for their students figuratively and physically and truly deserve $3000 a day for the bullshit that our country puts them through and teaching next generation but go back to your school that you want to or that your children are going to and ask yourself could I pass this class today? Could I pass my child’s classes with their workload and their teacher's ability to teach? As an adult, can you go from 8:15 to 3 and obtain 6 to 7 classes worth of information, go home and complete 12 hours worth of homework that’s two per class for the next day, and still have time for any sports extracurricular activities and or a part-time job? Could you handle it if it was only three classes, so that’s nine hours a night because instead of having three extra classes a day, you have more time to do homework, so it’s an additional hours' worth of homework per class? Could you handle a teacher who tells you and your class that you will never amount to anything if you don’t go to a specific college and then refuses to teach you to prepare you for college? Do you think the 65-year-old or 75-year-old teacher or counselor knows what’s best for you when you go and apply for college? Do you think a freshman in high school should be taking5 college courses as a set minimum standard to graduate high school? These things look good for the school, but they don’t help our students. We ignore our students, and we listen to the teachers and professors who constantly ask for money. Still, instead of going to those who need the money, they dump it into the schools, the physical school buildings, and they spend it in inappropriate ways. Your school did not need that new football field or that new gym; they needed water fountains that worked. They needed a school nurse who had actual first aid equipment instead of that little box of Band-Aids your child was asked to bring to school; your school needed AC and not a new desk for your principal. Hold the staff accountable. The staff is responsible, not the state, not the federal government. The staff is responsible. And just because you taught an old dog new tricks doesn’t mean you have a new dog.
