What Are children's education rights in United states?

I recently moved to the United States and I am research what the minimum standard of education is for 5-18 year olds, specifically what their rights are. The legal system here is a little fuzzy so I am having a hard time pinning down the information I am looking for.

So far I see that each State has its own education codes, but that is what is required of the schools. I also see that the 14th amendment requires that everyone be treated the same. I guess I am looking for something that explicitly says "5-18 year-olds have a right to an education and that education is defined as [blank]." I would be very grateful for any assistance. Thank you.
