Where is the research backing conservative pedagogy?

In speaking with a teacher friend of mine this weekend we discussed progressive and radical pedagogy and stopped cold when we asked this question. For those who think like Betsy DeVos or whoever supporting standardized curricula and high-pressure testing, is there any research to support their claims?
