Oh my god there's so much I didn't know

Can someone explain this to me please? I live in Georgia by the way, thought that might be useful information.

Until my senior year of high school I barely knew anything about Teddy Roosevelt and the economic state of the U.S. during and before his presidency, as in the monopolies and the widespread corruption. I had no idea the New York Canal even existed, I'm not kidding, I had literally never heard of or been thought about it. And I had barely learned anything about Europe and I had no idea Prussia existed until I learned about it on my own when I started developing an interest in German history. I also knew nothing about the European Union until brexit and I started learning about it. There's much more historical content I never learned anything about i'de love to talk about in the comments if you're up to it.

Why does our education system brush off history so much while choosing instead to focus on things like math we'll never use and boring most students out of an interest in science. When we do learn about history it's just that events happened, not there meaning wide spread effect of them. We should be learning from the past as to not repeat it not just learning that it happened.

Not to mention the fact that our schools teach us pretty much no practical skills for modern day life. And don't even get me started on writing, what they do it is disgusting. Common core forces us to write in such boring, forcefully structured and uncreative ways, made only worse by the meaningless bland topics we're forced to write on. It turns many people off of the prospect of writing for years sometimes lifetimes. And we barely ever read anything meaningful, I never really read anything that meaningful until senior year when we read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".

Nothing needs be said about standardized tests that hasn't been said a million times before. Why does our system do this to us? It's atrocious it's disgraceful to the very idea of education. It's so bland there's no fun to it no meaning, it's just pumping us full of useless information forcing us to focus on meaningless things while neglecting most of those that are meaningful. It seems to me that our system exists only so it can be said that it exists, and not to teach usefully, practically, thoughtful, intelligently and most importantly meaningfully.

TL;DR: complaining about how terrible the us education system is. Maybe you'd have read it if our system had encouraged you to enjoy reading instead of shoving it down your throat.
