Figuring out how to teach physics. Would it be bad to have students to prepare lesson plan for a topic and grade that as homework?

So I was thinking it might be valuable to have students prepare how to teach a subject in physics and grade their lessons. Example, prepare like a speach giving definitions and descriptions of concepts as well as examples. It would be graded base e d on how well it flows and how well the subject is conveyed. My thought process is that this would prove their understanding of the topic. What are your thoughts?
