College entry question

Hi there,

So I’m looking to go back to school. I have an ambitious goal that I’m starting to think isn’t obtainable. I want to go to law school. I realize I may have to start completely over to be able to make the curriculum requirements and I’m okay with that. When I went to school previously I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do and just ended up going to a tech school instead.

My question is, why are students who went to high school over ten years ago expected to hand in high school transcripts and SAT scores? It just seems like ten years of time would change the validity of that information.

I didn’t do terrible in high school, but I struggled with an abusive home and substance abuse issues during that time of my life. It feels haunting that I can’t move on from there and move forward into a clear direction due to it. I’m wondering if anyone can relate or has any advice for me.
