I regularly survey my middle school students about their habits with technology (using a spreadsheet to count how much time on phones, Internet, TV, tablet, etc.) and one student's response really stood out. He's already got academica issues to deal with (has an IEP) and struggles in all his subjects. However, while informally surveying daily technology/sleeping he reported that he's putting in more time using technology than he's sleeping--claiming an average of four hours per night.
I'm investigating this further and becoming skeptical of the actual number he's throwing out. (For instance, when asking about last night I found out he'd gotten in 7 hours of sleep--which is still too little, but not nearly as bad.)
However, I'm wondering if I find that this is happening with him consistently. Would this count as something to be reported?
