Texas education system is based on purely standardized testing(U.S History)(Long)

Does anyone else feel like our education does this?

I feel like being taught to pass a single test is very limiting in the amount we could, and should learn from histroy. The teacher is so focused on teaching us the test instead of being able to slow down slightly to show us some of the good and bad things we have done as a country. Such as "The battle of Wounded Knee" All we were told about that was it was a massacre and not really much of a battle. There is no mention of WHY we would do that, or HOW they were not able to defend themselves. World War 1, we never really discussed why the Central powers allied together, all we were told is that Arch Duke Frans Furgingham(Most likely butchered the name) was assassinated and started a world war. No discussion on how world war could have been prevented mostly just facts ,and not even all of the facts. The last one I've noticed most recently is the rights of Americans being limited like the 1968 gun control act, or the 1994 "Assault" weapons ban. Those should be important too, but we are only taught basic facts to pass a test.

I understand not every class is the same, and that maybe some teachers put more details and things the people should know about our history and culture, but I have yet to meet one that truly does.
