Transition Assessments?

Hello!

I am a school-based speech-language pathologist, but I am completing a project on behalf of my employer. The school I work at is sort of a private school, so the public school laws that apply to us are a little gray.

We recently implemented a life skills class called Project-Based Learning (PBL) and this is the first year students have been a part of the program.

The PBL class is, of course, focusing more on life skills than traditional academics. However, IEP meetings this year have become tough because parents are no longer seeing incremental improvements in their child's standardized test scores. It takes a lot of explaining to get parents to understand that the stills being worked on in the PBL class are not actually assessed using the standardized tests. This prompted me to ask my administration if I could explore the use of transition assessments in place of standardized assessments for our students.

I am aware of the Brigance Transition Skills Inventory. Are there any other transition or life-skills assessments you are aware of/familiar with? If your school has a life skills program, what assessments are used to determine post-secondary readiness?

Thanks!
