Do you think we will ever modernize the literature we read in English classes?

I love reading. It allows me to escape into a new world, learn things I never thought I would, and just overall makes me happy. But when I am assigned a dated book in my english class to read, it feels like a burden. The language is often hard to comprehend and the themes difficult to find and grasp. Now, this is coming from the perspective of a high school student, so I’m talking about literature like Walden and The Odyssey. I understand that the themes in these books is important to teach to students, but do you think the education system would ever add more modern books and plays into their curriculums? I don’t know when I will ever apply my knowledge of epic poem and Shakespeare play structure to the real world lol. I think that we dont have to remove these works, but add some new content that will appeal to students and keep them engaged. Thoughts?
