UK specific advice: Early Years Apprenticeship or gain a qualification first to start a career

Hello everyone, I'm thinking to start work in Early Years education. I am in London, UK, where there are many apprenticeships in nurseries that start this September. I have spoken with a friend who has been in this sector for a few years now and she advised that I study for a qualification (e.g. PGCE) before or alongside working in a nursery.

Apprenticeships are full time, so I don't think I could handle studying whilst doing it.

If anyone has thoughts or reflections on their pathway I would be really interested to hear them. I am 28 yrs old, pay is not the priority, and I have a university bachelor's in an unrelated field. My gut is saying to start an apprenticeship but I want to hear from others first.

Thanks for reading!
