School trying to force me to go to an "alternative school." What can I do?

Hey there. I'm a student who's currently a Senior in highschool. I just moved from Indiana to California to live with my dad and I'm having some problems. I'm trying to get registered at the same school as my brother, but they are refusing and saying I need to go to a local alternative school instead because I'm missing credits. I will admit that I failed school last year due to not adjusting well to online school, but to graduate this year all I would need to do is make up one English credit, as I was already ahead thanks to getting highschool credits in middle school. My brother is in the exact same situation as him but they enrolled him fine. It might also be because I am moving in the middle of the year and they cannot transfer credits from my old school for the current year. Before last year I was an all As all honor classes student, extremely high PSAT scores, and on track to graduate early. The alternative school the school I am registering is trying to get me to go to is for students with special needs, behavioral problems, or who need extra help academically. Seeing as I do not fit any of those requirements, I think going there would be detrimental for me and hold me back. I have no problem with people who desire or need to go to an alternative school, I just don't think it's the right environment for me. Is there anything I can do here?
