How to teach child two languages from birth on

I am german and when I was a child I taught myself english through a kids show of talking cats. Because I realised that I learned new words by watching, even if I didn't understand a thing in the beginning, I in the future never had to study a single thing in english class at school and it is a blessing. I have more time to concentrate on other subjects and am able to use english content like books.

My family is awaiting a child and I never interacted with newborns or babies in general. I'd like to know how and in what dimensions to teach a child a second language from birth on without confusing it.

What age do you start to teach a second language? Do you just randomly speak the second language? should you use books? Or should another language be avoided in the first few years of life? My sister (the mother) does not allow TV or tablets in the first 3 years so it can't learn through cartoons or similar like I did. (my screen time was also not limited by my parents and irresponsible)

Or just in general, what should I know about teaching children languages and speaking?
