Which master's degree to aim for?

I have bachelor's from industrial management/engineering. I am interested in data analytics as well as business/management. Would really appreciate some more insights to the topic, as unsure if to aim for business or management master and study data science on the side or vice versa?

ISO middle/high schools

Hello,

We are currently at public school and I’m looking for a difference education experience for my middle school children (soon to be high school) children. Does anyone know of schools that have the following qualities?

- Teaches critical thinking. ‘How to think’, not ‘what to think’, ie identifying logical fallacies and using Socratic method.

- Actively avoids teaching Group-Think, especially avoidance of contemporary narratives that are highly politicized.

- School that gives flexibility and has tools for students to pursue individual interests that are outside 'standards'.

- Avoids politics except in political science class.

- Minimal sitting at a desk while the teacher preaches info for the students to memorize and then recite on a test. Instead, more hands-on experiences and group work.

- Field trip opportunities.

- A positive and collaborative culture that includes teachers, administration, students and parents.

I’m looking anywhere in the country, public or private. Thank you.

Task trcking app?

(honestly I don't know where to ask this question, so here I am)

I'm thinking of using some kind of online application to track the progress of each individual student. However, I don't know what applications allow me to assign the same type of task to multiple students, but allow each one to update their on individual completion progress (if that makes sense).

For example, many platforms allow for task tracking for a project, but it seems that it only shows the status of the overall task, and not an individual's progress through it.

Basically, I just want to be able to see how many of my students are not/currently/completed the set task for a topic - i.e. I can assign the task 'exercise 1A' to all members of the class, and each member can update their completion status independent of one another. Any app recommendations? (online not phone/tablet)

Question about a university system in Russia.

Hello, for some time I noticed that a university in Russia, has a certain system that I consider weird because I have never seen any system like it before, this university is repeating or "continuing" certain subjects on the course of 2 semesters and in some situations even 3, so students would be studying the same subject for a whole academic year. (The program : business and management).

These subjects were : management theory, history, math, marketing, economic theory. (maybe more)
In my opinion, I think that this way of teaching is absolutely useless and a waste of time , and I can't help but think that the university is prolonging the subjects this way as if they do not have more material to give. (4 years full-time)

That is just my opinion, but I am also anxious because I am not really a big fan of this system, because I hate wasting time, but I would like to get your opinions about whether if universities usually do that in Russia or Worldwide, or there is something fishy about this university? And do you think that this method or system would make students understand the course better? or there is nothing important that would do?

Indianapolis Public Schools promotes racially segregated groups

One of IPS's groups is 'for White people' and is called 'Confronting White Privilege'

The Indianapolis Public School District is set to launch a program that will separate staff members by race, sexual orientation, religion and gender groups.

"We are so excited to be able to offer this opportunity this school year and hope that you’ll consider joining an affinity group," IPS’s office of racial equity said in an email to district staffers of the program, according to the grassroots organization, Parents Defending Education.

Registration information sent to IPS staffers shows 12 "affinity groups" that are broken down into categories such as, "LGBTQIA+," "Ability Diverse," "Black/African American," "LatinX," "Jewish," "Muslim," as well as other categories.

The group for White people is called "Confronting White Privilege."

Affinity groups are sponsored by the district’s office of racial equity, a position created by Dr. Aleesia Johnson, an African-American hired as superintendent in 2019.

"It is hard to imagine how deliberately separating colleagues based on their immutable traits can possibly lead anywhere good," Erika Sanzi, Parents Defending Education’s director of outreach, said in a statement. "The fixation of IPS on group identities is not only misguided but dangerous because of how quickly it can lead to the dehumanization of others."

The program will officially launch on Sept. 23, according to the documents, when this year’s group leaders will be announced and the school employees will discuss "goal setting."

The report comes after other schools have faced scrutiny for implementing similar segregated groups, including in Massachusetts earlier this year when Parents Defending Education filed a federal civil rights complaint over a district excluding White students from an event designated for other racial groups.

"Note: This is a safe space for our Asian/Asian-American and Students of Color, *not for students who identify only as White," a March 2021 email from the district read.

Then earlier this month, a Black Atlanta mother filed a federal discrimination complaint against an elementary school, alleging students were segregated based on race.

"I was appalled that we are talking about Black classes and segregation," Kila Posey told a news reporter.

Posey said that the principal at Mary Lin Elementary School, where her daughter attends, implemented a plan that put Black students in two classes with two different teachers, while White students were put in six classes with six different teachers.

"We've lost sleep like trying to figure out why would a person do this," Posey said. "First, it was just disbelief that I was having this conversation in 2020 with a person that looks just like me — a Black woman. It's segregating classrooms. You cannot segregate classrooms. You can't do it."

"My community, had they known about this, would probably be extremely upset. Not just the Black parents but also White parents," Posey added.

I'm LGBT. Can/should I be out at work?

I recently got a job at a public elementary school in a kinda conservative area of a kinda liberal state. My partner and I just got engaged and I've already gotten questions about the ring from my coworkers, not to mention that I may opt to change my last name (ie, what the kids call me, so it won't be subtle) after the wedding. So far I've just avoided using pronouns when I talk about my partner, but that leads to a very awkward way of speaking after more than a sentence or two. Is it worth just being honest with my coworkers, or should I just pretend my partner is the "opposite" gender from me? The district and school have said things about being inclusive in official statements, but who knows what goes out the window once a parent catches wind and makes a stink...
