What’s your opinion of Common Core?

I’m a young 2nd year teacher. Some family, friends, and strangers will ask me my opinion on common core. I don’t know enough about it.

Isn’t it just a list of things we have to teach? Doesn’t every place do that? Why do/don’t teachers, parents, etc. like it? Not sure if it has to do with my age or length of teaching when something changed.

How many O or A Levels is considered an Ontario (Canada) Grade 12 Diploma?

Looking to update my educational credentials for a job and would like to know how many O (GCSE's) or A levels would be sufficient for me to get it converted into an Ontario Grade 12 High School Diploma? Thank you all in advance.

What humanity has come to

My 6th grade geography teacher would give us multiple study guides with conflicting information, tell us we weren’t aloud to use any other sources to study, and then take points off of our tests when we got the answers “wrong.”

My 7th grade history teacher had a picture Robert. E. Lee on his desk and couldn’t remember the names of half the girls in my class. I had him for two years.

In 8th grade the same teacher made us spend half the year working on a giant research project without teaching us any of the skills we needed to do the actual research, then resigned at the end of the year without even grading them.

My 9th grade science teachers taught an entire unit on methemoglobinemia without actually knowing how to pronounce “methemoglobin.”

My stats teacher doesn’t believe in the Monty Hall problem and spent a whole class period explaining to us that it’s BS.

It’s been several years since the last time I saw a science work sheet that didn’t have at least one major grammatical error that made several of the questions on it completely nonsensical.

This is what passes as a “privileged education” and people still wonder why flat earthers are a thing.

Should I apply to study abroad in Russia?

For about 2 years now till I finish high school this year, I've been planning to continue my studies in Russia because I love this country without the need to explain why, I've also been learning Russian and I can say that I am B1 at it.

But now, considering what's happening with Russia, is it a bad decision to study abroad in Russia ?
I feel so sad because I've been planning to study in Russia and live there because I love this country, but I think I will have to change my plan to Germany perhaps and start learning German now.

What do you think?
