I'm a high school teacher looking for tutoring advice to support a mixed race (black/white) female student who is struggling with her identity in a white, middle/working class suburban area

As with my particular role within the school, I've decided to try and support a few students in their final year at high school. I've targeted students who are behind on their target grades of whom have sufficient character that, with the appropriate support, will find it within themselves to aim higher, want more from themselves, and to achieve greater results in their exams next year.

The methodologies are not where I ask for support:

One particular young girl has White-British and Black-Ghanaian heritage.

As a white male, It is very difficult to evaluate, or to introspect, as to what may be a root cause for her disassociation with her education. Through my experiences, the vast majority of young people who present like this particular student, derive their personas from social problems, mental health issues, or issues with personal identity.

Her mother (Ghanaian), as well as a well informed colleague of mine, believes the cause is one of race and of personal and social identity.

I therefore put it to you, fellow Rediters, that we find some literature (for me or her), YouTube videos, social media presence, dialogue or any form of support that can help this young woman find her identity, her sense of pride and her confidence.

Edit: I must stress that the content shared must be age appropriate (15yrs old), that it would be something suitable for a teacher to give their student, and that it's premise is about supplying information and support to young black people who may struggle to find the starting point as to how to deal with personal identity
