Most online sources suggest starting with a striking sentence or a unique sentence then gradually move to the real deal once you have the reader's attention. However, I started mine with "I wish to join the Master's in [....] program at [....] etc"
Is this considered bad? I want to get down to it and not waste my time thinking of how to start. I actually have two essays to submit for this application and the first one (personal) started in a way that was less in your face but this one (academic) I kinda just want to keep it simple. I asked about personal statements in the title to just get an idea of how admission tutors feel about direct opening lines?
