Doubled donations when you help my students!
Hi Friends,
I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I've created a classroom project request through DonorsChoose.org, an award-winning charity. Donations of any size will help my kids. Right now, any contribution you make to my project will be doubled by Aspect Ventures. Your donation will brighten my students' school year, and you'll get heartfelt thank yous from my class and photos of your gift in action. Here's my classroom request: Finish Turning Reading Around for All Students by 180 degrees! (http://ift.tt/2nwDNer) To have your donation matched dollar for dollar, just make a contribution on that project page - donations will be doubled automatically, but only while funding lasts. If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. Any help is appreciated...financial, sharing this post, prayers...it all helps!
My students and I greatly appreciate your support.

Taking the Financial Accounting Midterm Today
Today, I had a Financial Accounting Midterm. Before taking the midterm, I went to tutoring at the SACC. We asked questions and use logical reasoning to solve them.
The last time I took the midterm, I did poorly and have to drop the class. The subway was delayed due to a thief getting side-swiped by a train operating on the opposite direction of the thief. This almost got me late to the exam. There were a set of questions that require me bubble in more than one answer.
This time, when I came to take the midterm, the professor lets us omit the last three questions, one of them being an extra credit question. I was able to understand most of the questions. There were 97 question to be answered in 140 minutes, giving us about 86.5 seconds to answer each question.
I was able to finish the exam 30 minutes before time is up. Upon leaving the lecture hall, the professor shook my hand.

Does it pay to Double Major in college? tl;dr: not really.
While double majors have been a popular way to balance a deep study of the humanities with traditional degrees in the sciences, basic tabulations suggest that the percent of workers with a double major has been roughly constant, or even decreasing, over the past six years depending on how one restricts the sample.
In 2013, the National Commission on Higher Education Attainment went so far as to urge universities to “narrow student choice” to promote degree completion – perhaps by restricting or even banning the completion of double majors!

Looking for a Multiple Choice App
Hello everyone :) I'm having a reeeally hard time learning all the stuff I need to know as a Pharmacist (but never really learned as a student, because no Professor ever demanded it ... and if I'm totally honest I was always doing the minimum to pass the tests :/) and now I'm looking for some kind of app I could use to test myself. During my university life I used flashcard apps, but now I'd need something that could create multiple choice tests. I need to learn the name of a LOT of substances (and their respective classes), so the app should be able to create its own questions (otherwise I'd just learn certain combinations, and that wouldn't really help in that case). Do any of you know an app that would be able to do that? So far I haven't found anything T_T
Thanks for your help! Have a nice day :)

Is it time to move on?
I have a social studies education degree and special Ed endorsement and live in the suburbs outside of Chicago. I have applied to hundreds of schools over the past 6 years. Currently I am a para-educator at a school that definitely will not hire me. I have had only a handful of interviews with none being successful. I'm 28 now and I'm kinda at the point in my life where I should have the job I studied for in college all those years ago. There are people much younger than me getting jobs in a similar fields and much more quickly. I am pretty depressed about where I am at in life. So...do you think I should just cut my loses and find another career or should I stick with what I am doing now?

Anybody have any experience with teaching in NYC on a PA Teacher Cert?
I have recently obtained a teaching cert in PA, but am looking to move to NYC for next school year. I've looked online and it looks like there is an initial cert, and a conditional initial cert for out of state applicants. I am not sure what the difference is between the two - it looks like one requires attending workshops and the other doesn't?
Has anyone completed this move? How hard was it to get a NY cert (or whatever is needed to teach in NYC?)

Specifically, I am trying to find if there is any information on the average number of schools a student attends and how that impacts student success.
I can find a lot of information about how school switching impacts success, I was just looking for that total average if possible.
Hope this is a good place to ask, Thanks!

Fuck school fuck getting an education
Been at school for sooooo long now and it's getting very very fucking annoying. I would pay to see the place with all the heads of the school (the cooperate twats that run the place) get blown to pieces. I get mistreated so bad, the education is shit, I don't even WANT a job when I'm older I'd rather become a successful criminal, a traveller, an entrepreneur or even fucking homeless and busking for all I care. If I was powerful enough, I would completely ABOLISH the entire system run by greedy fucking cunts. Every single human being in western society has to go through this bullshit and we all think it's a normal part of life - BUT ITS NOT. There's charities that are struggling to find the cure for cancer, but the reason we HAVE ALL THIS CANCER IS BECAUSE LITERALLY EVERYTHING FROM FOOD ADDITIVES TO TECHNOLOGY CAUSES IT. If you don't want cancer, don't live in this disgusting society. I just smoke weed and drink all the time now to kill my painful boredom. I have friends which is great and all, but I'm not going to know them for very long now because I'll probably fail my GCSES which I don't give a fuck about tbh. I just want to escape all this. FUCK GETTING A JOB. FUCK SCHOOL. FUCK SOCIALISM.

This is such an absurd thing. It plays on the insecurity of teachers, and administrations, and most importantly, board members, who will push their isolationist, fear-driven policies in order to buy useless garbage like this.

I was diagnosed with a LD as an adult and it could have changed my whole education experience.
I was fortunate enough to go to an excellent high school in an affluent community. I was in some advanced and AP courses and excelled in the performing arts. However, I struggled with algebra. In fact, I never passed it in HS. I was awarded a scholarship for performing arts at my state university under the provision that I would start on academic probation because of my math grades and I would have to take HS level algebra. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to perform because of this and the pressure and shame was too much for me and I dropped out after my freshman year. Fast forward 10 years and my girlfriend is in grad school for counseling. While studying the DSM-5, and knowing my history, she has a conversation with her professor about me. She said it sounded like I was dysnumeric. I did some research and it really explains so much. It's frustrating to think that I had a learning disability all this time and was never able to work through it or get help. I feel it really effected my academic life and in turn, my future. It's also very humbling to think if someone in my situation fell through the cracks, that so many others never had a chance.
tl;dr I found out later in adulthood that I was dysnumeric and I feel it had a profound effect on my life.

An honest discussion about education funding.
Public schools in America are notorious bad. We can take this on a case by case basis, but I do believe the majority of our public schools are underperforming. Underperforming in what way? Well, America ranks 14th in Education. We attribute this to a number of elements. Anecdotally, in my experience in public schools, the teachers were absolutely shit and didnt care. We need a better standard of teaching. Education needs to be revamped and hopefully this budget cuts aids schools in prioritizing needs. We cannot continue funneling money into a broken system.

I cannot happily raise children in this country anymore.
I am a recent college grad with a degree in music education. I accepted a position abroad in the fall because I had studied abroad and loved it. Since then I wanted to live abroad for a year or 2. This decision just happened to coincide with the new presidency. I was going to do this no matter what.
I'm a super independent lady that doesn't intend to have children anytime soon, but if I do, I don't think I can raise them in America. I can't raise children in a country where the government doesn't really give any fucks about their education.
I'm an American and I try so hard to love my country, but if I end up loving my new job...I may just stay there forever.
Just wanted to share my thoughts.

As a future educator, I'm worried
I'm a freshman college student in a Music Education Major, and with the recent news about the budget cuts done to the arts and education, I can't help but wonder what will happen in my future as a teacher and advocate of the arts as I fear that there's going to be a slow decline in the arts in public schools as more and more budget cuts are going to happen each year. How will I know if my future as an educator in music will be safe without having this looming menace risking my entire future? I really hope things will get better for education and the arts altogether and that politicians will realize how important the arts are in an educational setting.

Struggling to stick with things.
I took last year off after deciding I really hated my degree I was studying electrical engineering. Thought about it quite thoroughly and decided I wanted to study computer science because I enjoyed programming in engineering. I'm three weeks in and not really enjoying it, I struggle to find motivation to turn up. At first I found the lectures interesting but as soon as it got to the tutorials (where you basically complete weekly tasks and get assessed) I started hating it. I honestly just felt way less computer literate than all the 18 year Olds in my tutorial, maybe they have played with those systems when they were in still in school.
I feel that maybe the route of my problem is that I'm giving up because it's starting to get hard (as ashamed as I am to admit that).
I gave up on engineering because I didn't like any subjects and loathed the idea of being an electrical engineer and I still think I made the right decision leaving.

Doubting My Decision to be a Teacher
I'm halfway through my undergrad, with a duel major in Elementary and Special Education and I'm currently loving it! I've done two semesters now of student teaching, and it's been incredible. I love the kids and the fact that I'm getting to make a difference in their lives. The joy I feel in the classroom is unmeasurable.
BUT I absolutely hate the political nature of schooling in the US. It's horrible. The testing is insane and incredibly developmentally inappropriate. Teachers make so little, and yet hold so much responsibility. We are so under-appreciated and most people treat our jobs like a joke.
I'm really struggling with the fact that I love these kiddos so so much, but don't know that I can live with poor compensation and lack of respect that teachers get. I'm so worried that I just a few years in I won't be able to take it anymore and I will have waisted my education. Advice please!?

Only studying important parts in school, test, certifications, etc?
Over the years I have studied ONLY what's necessary for what's on the test at school. My buddy would overstudy & get burnt out. I tried explaining to this him. I would catch myself doing the same because I really wanted to learn the materials in depth.
Year's later, I find professionals whether it's CPA's, attorneys, etc. would say the same. Only study what you need to pass the exam. After that, everything is pointless. But then I asked what about actually learning the materials in depth so you get a better understanding?
This also applies to testing out of college courses. Sure testing out makes things easier & faster, but you don't actually learn the material I would assume. You would only pass to get credit & be done with.
Any thoughts on this?
