Desktop annotations with Promethean Board

I have a Promethean board with ActivInspire software. I'd like to annotate word documents in my classes. For instance, open a word document, and then circle the nouns. Is there a way to do this?

I know how to draw on the ActivInspire flipcharts, but I need to be able to use the pen tool in other applications. Does anyone do this?
