I've recently gone back to school at 33 years old. When I was 18 I took an Oral Communications class at a tech college. The university I'm at now does not accept this as a transfer course but requires that I take an Oral Comm class. There's a form I can fill out to ask that it be waived, but I have to make an argument to my advisor so he will sign off on it. Obviously, the university has already "assessed" the course I've previously taken and deemed it unsuitable for their Gen Ed requirement.
I don't want to sound whiny or entitled when I talk to my advisor but I feel that at 33 years old I've had plenty of successful oral communication (not to mention about 15 years more than anyone else in the class). Plus, I've already taken an Oral Comm class and I feel that the university uses their excuse as a scam to make money.
What can I say to convince him?
