Is there any hard proof administrators have fired older teachers to pay less salary?

I know it's been a rumor for decades, that no one hires older teachers (or may even fire them) because they can hire younger teachers at a cheaper rate.

Is there any actual documentation to support this happening other than "hearsay"?

Also, in the minds of many business-minded school board members, students are "customers". Since the customer can provide no real feedback or make other choices why would a district pay top wages when the "customer" still keeps coming, even with less experience staff? How do teacher counter the business-minded school board member who only sees dollar signs?
