Currently I am teaching EFL overseas and I'm loving it. I want to go back to school and get my Masters in TESOL. However, I worry that there not might be enough jobs in that field and that I might have difficulty finding something where I'm from.
If I couldn't find anything, I would have to look for a normal English teaching job (my bachelors was in secondary English education). In those cases, would an MA in TESOL hurt my job prospects? Would it help a little? Would it do nothing at all positive or negative? I'm worried a school district wouldn't want to hire me as they'd have to pay me a higher salary for a degree that isn't super relevant to the position I'm applying for. I'm also worried they'd wonder why I got an MA in TESOL and then start applying for non TESOL jobs. It would make it seem like my specialty lies elsewhere.
