LF education path guidance! [Medical Research]

I want to get myself into medical research field, but really unsure how to get there. I don't really plan on ever being a physician but I want to get a proper medical education, so I though about getting an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting and then applying into Medical School. Or should I just pursue Bachelors degree in some science field and look for research opportunities while getting higher education?

Any opinion is highly appreciated!
