The author of this article details the reasons for the recent Chicago teacher's strike, their accomplishments, and what teachers still need addressed.

Education Acts (laws) and board of education policies and duties have been written to empower teachers to successfully do the job they have have been tasked with. These documents can be used to make very reasoned and justified demands to improve the education of students. The teachers of Chicago fight for improvments in education inculcates by precept and example respect for their students needs.

Across the lake from Chicago teachers in Ontario have a moral obligation cast into law "The Education Act" -

264(1)(c) Teachers (meaning members of the Ontario College of Teachers) must "inculcate by precept and example respect for religion and the principles of Judaeo-Christian morality and the highest regard for truth, justice, loyalty, love of country, humanity, benevolence, sobriety, industry, frugality, purity, temperance and all other virtues".

Do most jurisdictions have laws, policies, and duties, like those in Ontario, that can empower educators to morally and ethically demand what they need to do their calling effectively?
