Does the National Education Association do anything?

I have been researching the NEA, and to my surprise, it seems they have been fairly inactive in communities and politics for almost a decade. Even their own website has no information on recent happenings within the organization (and their website looks like one that "that coffee shop down the street" would have, it's horrible).

My main question: does the NEA really do anything? (I'm not trying to be ignorant, I just don't know).
