Foreign teaching credentials/degrees: are they worth anything in the US?

My wife is a Japanese national and lawful permanent resident offer US (green card holder).

She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from a Japanese University, as well as teaching licenses for Junior High-High School students in Japan. I am wondering if these credentials can be used in the states, and if there is any way to have them recognized as valid for obtaining teaching credentials in the US. I know virtually nothing on the subject, so I am simply looking for greater insight into how she can become a music teacher with the education that she already has.
