Thoughts on job security?

I know this is such an upleasant topic to bring up, with EVERYTHING going on in education and the world right now. However, I'm reaching out to my education community for some thoughts, support, words of encouragement, etc.

I am a school psychologist and I live in California. Been at this for 8 years now, in a district I enjoy (this will be my 3rd year in my district). At my district school psychs are not part of the teachers union. I was coming out of graduate school at the tail end of the last recession and it was difficult to find jobs- I relocated to an area where there was more of a need. Now I am getting panicked that the layoffs will happen again (if not worse this time). My husband and I have worked incredibly hard and lived very frugally to pay down our massive student loan debt. We recently bought our first home. How do you all think California is looking (for those in public school in general, and related service providers such as school psychologists specifically. And to clarify, I am not a school counselor, I am a school psychologist working specifically with our special education population doing testing, IEP meetings, crisis work, and some counseling)??

I would love some reassurance that I'll weather the storm if anyone can provide that. Or words of wisdom/advice if that feels more realistic.

To all of you out there- this all is hard and scary. It seems all options come with a serious downside. My heartfelt thanks, appreciation, and support goes out to all of you working in education!
