Are you able to have a career in education while pursuing possibly controversial creative endeavors?

I have been thinking about pursuing a career as a theater teacher/professor and I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience on regarding their personal endeavors interfering with their job. I am passionate about writing plays, films, etc. that would be considered controversial and I am concerned that this would have an impact on whether or not I could get a job in education. Thank you!
