Hi all,
I’m looking for advice, tips, anecdotes, etc. I just completed my Bachelor of Education, however, due to a head injury and poor management of said injury, I now suffer from chronic tinnitus and hyperacusis, so teaching in an elementary classroom or gym (phys ed specialist) is not really an option for me. It’s disappointing and I don’t think I’ve fully come to grips with it yet.
I’m looking to still work within the education field, although I find just working in a school is extremely loud and unpredictable. I’ve been looking into becoming a consultant, but due to my severe lack of experience in schools (only 2 years in non-teaching positions/occasional subbing positions) I’m worried this won’t be possible... I’ve been looking into masters programs to bolster my resume.
I’m currently working in a school with a really poor culture, lack of mutual respect, enormous amounts of gossip/bullshit, blah blah blah. As shitty as this experience is, it’s also given me some insight into what kind of consulting business I can open, which is developing a positive school culture and climate rooted in respect, integrity and compassion. However, I’m not sure how feasible this could be in the long-term. I know the province in which I live typically has a pretty negative culture as a whole, small-town gossip is all the rage and the big city folk think they are on top of the world (city population is less than 500,000).. it’s beyond frustrating. I guess my question after this long-winded post is two fold; does anyone have experience in this and could you provide any words of advice/encouragement and would it be a feasible option for me to pursue?
