Mandatory Civics/Critical Thinking Classes in High School

I have been told by everyone I mention it to that the best thing we can do for our country now and the country we leave our children and their children is that our public schools should mandate civics classes flavored with critical thinking philosophies.

These could be totally nonpartisan lessons having students choose whatever is going on politically in the world that comes to their attention.

Communication skills would be improved by students' expression of their findings based on writing assignments relating to American political history or whatever they find to be substantially sound based on basic critical thinking skills.
