Has anyone come across longitudinal studies on learning disabilities?

I've only found some that survey what former students are up to but nothing on retesting them.

Do learning disabilities become less of a disability as school progresses?

Are their studies on best practices for aiding each type of disability?

We drop an insane amount of budget on SpEd but don't have a clue as to if our methods work or if cognitive issues are a function of brain development. I read a stat that SpEd kids can cost 2-3x what a regular ed kid cost.

Are we helping or hurting?

Anecdotally, I see no improvement in upper grades. SpEd kids are way behind and there's a learned helplessness about them. Many have dropped out - but have not physically left.
