Well-of Parents sent me to a public school, thoughts?

Hi all,

My parents are relatively well off, living in the most affluent area of my city. From the latter part of primary school, as most of my friends were taken away to private schools, I was left attending the local high school.

I didn't make the initial connection that we were indeed financially more affluent then nearly all the other students in the cohort, until around grade 9. Students would rather frequently query why my parents were driving me in luxury cars (BMW or Audi) and even why I attended a public school.

I feel this difference in socio-economic background had created issues making friends and maintaining relationships, especially in the strange collective environment of public high schools. I feel somewhat ashamed telling people I attended a public high school and many answer in somewhat surprise I did so.

Do you think this is a correct decision on my parents part (having completed school now)?

P.S. This is in Australia.

P.P.S. Just something that I have always thought about :)
