Hi All, needing some advice and not sure where to post. If you have a better sub suggestion, please let me know!
Some life background: My nephew (13) and niece (12) live with their maternal grandmother. Both their mom and dad (my brother) are no longer involved and are what I consider to be the lowest and most selfish people to walk on this earth. These kids have been abandoned by everyone except myself and their grandmother. However, grandma is getting more and more worn out and it's becoming destructive to the kids, especially my nephew.
The problem: My nephew stopped going to school in Sept. 2017. At first it was because of stomach issues (having diarrhea every time he ate). He was diagnosed with various food allergies, but nothing that couldn't be managed with minor dietary changes. Then it just turned into him refusing to go and playing Xbox all day.
In April, his grandma signed him up for an online homeschool program. She works all day and he likes to play video games, so you can imagine how much work is being done with a 13 year old left to his own devices. I've asked for the login info to the program multiple times to see if I can help, but now she's saying it's not paid up for the month so I can't log in anyway. I've offered to help pay, but haven't gotten a response. So what I'm gathering now is that my nephew doesn't even have access to it if he wanted to.
My fiancee and I have considered taking him in, but we live in a small apartment with 2 dogs and I'm just not sure it's feasible with our income. I'm just not sure where to start or what steps to take to get him on the right track. Is there a program anyone would recommend for him? Are there boarding school options that could offer financial aid? I'll take any ideas at this point. For reference we are located in Texas in the DFW area.
Happy to provide more details on the situation if it'll help.
