Unsure of primary source

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm currently doing a Bibliography for one of modules and I'm unsure whether the following would be considered a primary source.

"The Kwakiutl of Vancouver Island," American Museum of Natural History Memoirs 8:301-522 by Franz Boas.

I know a primary source is to be someone that observed the events and from my understanding Franz Boas went and observed the Kwakiutl tribe.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated or even direct me towards a more appropriate primary source.
