As an educator what si our responsibility to teach about 9/11?

I am preparing my materials about 9/11 and I began thinking about a recent discussion about how in the rest of the world the American Revoultion is not taught as the penultimate event of western society like it is here. It got me thinking about how we continue to reinforce 9/11, and wonder if maybe we are perpetuating ideas that are not our responsibility to teach. I think absolutely it should be discussed, but what level and in what way do you approach it in your classroom? Or, as a student how have you found it affected your education/school?
