No one laughs at high schooler who momentarily mistakes car engine for shooter

I am student teaching at a high school. At the end of the school day today, some asshole revved their Mustang's engine really loudly right in front of the main entrance. A girl standing next to me screamed. Even though there was a big crowd of students, nobody laughed.

The driver kept revving the engine and the Mustang backfired a few times. I spent the drive home contemplating what I would have done if it really had been a school shooter instead of an asshole with a Mustang.
