How many times has your school gone on lockdown this year? Is that a number your district makes public?

Hi, my name is Austin Gomberg and I'm a part of a Pennsylvania based news organization called CoverThis.News think kickstarter aka. crowdfunding for localized news research reports. Now, what does this have do with /r/education well I'll tell you!

We are in the process of getting funding for the following report: How many schools in Chester County, PA had lockdowns in 2019? and hope that by collecting and analyzing this data we can reach important determinations about lockdowns in schools for the purpose of making our schools safer; we also believe this data should be public in some sort of public database for the purposes of transparency between school systems and their general public. We would love to see this research report then picked up and expanded for all of PA and eventually all of the country.

So, I just want to pick your brains for a bit about lockdowns and get some anecdotal information to help me determine how best to go at this story! Some questions: What do you think of lockdowns? Have they been increasing in recent years? Does your school do a good job at letting parents/public know about them as they occur? What could be changed about the current way lockdowns happen in our schools? And finally, do you have any crazy stories worth sharing! I'm sure everyone would be interested.

I appreciate your time, my mom is a Philadelphia School District teacher and has been for over 18 years now, so this is a story I know at least one teacher finds important! I'd love to see some backers for this story come out of this post, but I appreciate any and all feedback. And please reach out if you have an idea for a story, our teachers issues are so often ignored but if we all came together and put a little bit of money where our mouths are they couldn't ignore us!
