Need advice for after college.

I am currently in my second year at college doing a Graphic Design course. I have a job as a financial assistant which I was lucky to get as it pays really well especially for my age. I am at college for 3 days a week and I work 2 days a week.

So I'm wondering if this is a good idea for 1 year after I complete college this summer before I go out looking for a new job:

3 days a week at work |2 days at home working on web design, digital art, getting myself online and known, freelance work etc.

I'm not happy at the moment with just graphics design under my belt. I need to create a portfolio, I need more in it. So would this be a good year long plan before I go out to find a new job?
