Yesterday, the Department of Justice indicted a Harvard Professor, Charles Lieber for lying to federal authorities about his work with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), while receiving U.S. federal research funds. This is not an isolated incident, in fact, the CCP has infiltrated elite U.S. Higher Education institutions. Over 50 U.S. universities are complicit, as the Department of Educations uncovered over $6.5 billion in undisclosed donations from the CCP, Huawei, ZTE, and other adversary countries. The worst part about this, the Universities' leaders are trying to keep the records tieing them to the CCP and Huawei secret. This problem is permeated and widespread in over 50 U.S. Universities which threatens national security.
Perhaps these universities should lead by example and expose corruption in their schools. Here is what one can uncover when a school is put under a microscope; for this in-depth look, I'll use my former school to show the CCP and Huawei's ties to Texas A&M Universities.
The Trump Administration, the FBI, and the U.S. Department of Education are currently investigating Texas A&M University for accepting foreign money from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), specifically from Huawei and ZTE. Only a part of the probe's mission is to expose how elite school(s) have not disclosed foreign money/gifts of more than $250,000. The investigations are not just about failing to disclose foreign money; Texas A&M University has 100 professors that received money from CCP and not disclose the funds. CCP and other nations are suspected of spying on and stealing federally funded research at Texas A&M, and much of the research relates to national security.
In 2017, Texas A&M University System received an award for Counter Intelligence by the Defense Department, however, no researchers or professors have been fired from the investigations. Instead, on March 4th of 2020, the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, David Bowdich, gave a speech in College Station to insinuate to those working in cahoots with Chinese intelligence that the FBI is well aware of what is going on at the university system. The speech was a way to instill fear in those working against national interests and to bring awareness to the "importance of partnerships in responding to the Chinese economic espionage threat to academia."
It is important to note, the Defense News reported in May that the Texas A&M University System "board of regents has approved the funding to create a new hypersonic weapons test center for U.S. Army Futures Command.... the regents voted to spend $79.3 million of university funds on the project, dubbed the Bush Combat Development Center. The state of Texas already approved $50 million, with the Army kicking in another $65 million."
Just this week, a bipartisan bill is being introduced to stop the CCP's theft of US-funded research and "enhancing the authority of federal agencies to monitor and punish the schools and scientists."
