As someone who is terrible at algebra, how can I get a passable score on the ACT Math test? (Please read the full post)

Math is something I have always struggled with all throughout my school life. Sure I can multiply and solve for x, but anything past that that involves the quadratic formula or logarithms is definitely a challenge for me. I’m always having to consult my notes and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ll be so frustrated over a problem I would literally cry. The best grades I’ve ever managed to get in all the math classes I’ve ever taken on average was a high D to a mid B. Tests absolutely terrify me and every night before a big math test I’ll be awake worrying about how bad my score is going to be. Needless to say, the July ACT is right around the corner, and the thought of that math test scares me. I’ve been practicing, but every time I take the practice test, I can only get through half the questions, and that doesn’t include the tough ones I skip. I’m really nervous about this test. How can I manage to answer 60 questions in just 60 minutes? I can barely get through one without lingering on it for a couple minutes before I decide to skip it. I should also mention that I’ve taken the ACT before last December as a test run and I only managed to score a 15. I really need help. I’m not looking to get a 36, just a score that can at least pass me. The career paths I want to go into involve little to no algebra. I just want to be able to put this behind me and never think about it again (well, at least until my next required algebra class).
