Reading as punishment?

I am a bit torn on this as I see it both ways however I am definitely bias towards my son. He loves reading, always has. He is 9 and in grade 4. He primarily reads fiction - mysteries, fantasy & comics. He is suppose to read every week for school, 15 minutes three times a week. He reads at least every 2-3 days for a hour or two so I've never thought much of it. His teacher is upset he only reads mysteries, fantasy novels and comics (mind you he reads at grade 8 level at least) she kept him in for recess today and made him read other books to punish him for not reading the books that he chose to put in his bag of books. I feel like its actually just damaging to his love of reading. I also dont understand why reading anything isnt enough. It seems really nitpicky to me. I have a meeting with her tomorrow I am just not quite sure how to broach the subject with her or if it would even be beneficial to do at all. His teacher last year was magnificent, just loved the fact that he was such a strong reader and encouraged him to try out different types of books. His teaching style meshed really well with my son and he branched out to other genres including reading one of my recipe books haha.
