Jordan Peterson remarked that the most interesting individuals he has ever talked to were intelligent people who didn't go to university. They weren't forced to learn anything they detested, and so they didn't cut corners when studying. They didn't get spoiled by a more biased and general approach but rather allowed themselves to be educated more freely, and completely in accord with their interests, thus learning random skills and facts. Sure, it might lack depth, but the breadth of unusual and original things they might get exposed by means of this sort of education can make a very interesting case.
