I'm a bit concerned about my sister. I'm 19 years old, living my own life, going to college, and she's 9. The problem is that she thinks our parents prefer me, and I worry this might have negative consequences for her in the long run.
My mom argues with her a lot because, well, she's a kid—she makes a mess everywhere, doesn't help much with chores, gets frustrated easily, and so on. Because of this, my mom tries to teach her about organization, keeping things in place, treating family members kindly, helping with the dishes, etc.
However, my sister constantly questions why our parents don’t argue with me the same way. The thing is, I barely talk to them, and I just take care of my own responsibilities. But she doesn’t see it that way—she prefers to believe that our parents love me and hate her.
I don’t like this because I feel guilty, even though it’s not really my fault.
Does anyone have advice on how to help her understand why we’re treated differently?
