"Need-blind isn't need-blind" is, in my opinion, the college admissions industry's worst-kept secret and I can definitely see some struggling/less-well-endowed private colleges using the ECD to make sure they aren't admitting too many students who will need lots of financial aid, just from a practical standpoint.
