A reading train is the whole school stopping what they are doing and reading for anywhere from 10-20 minutes. At the elementary level it would have all students and teachers sitting in the hallway reading. Ideally, this would happen once a week during the same time period. I want students to understand the importance and value of reading by observing the entire student and teacher population reading independently. I am hoping this fosters a culture of reading and helps support our unmotivated readers a bit more. I am not sure where to begin the research that would support a program like this.
Or, if anyone has any other school-wide literacy programs that are not assessment related would be awesome as well!
